New products

We are happy to announce the following new products!

Breakfast Sausage

Like you get in a restaurant. The more slender format with a slightly different flavour profile. Some customers have requested them, telling us that they are convenient for quick frying.

Maple Ham

This is a fully cooked, sliced ham, ready to go on a sandwich.

Honey Garlic Sausage

This is a Farmer’s sausage in the traditional format, similar in taste to our popular Maple Garlic Sausage, but moderately sweetened with honey.

Beef Back Ribs

Beef back ribs come from the rib primal cut on a cow. The exact same area where you find delicious and fatty rib eyes or prime rib. In fact, beef back ribs are just the bones that have been removed during the trimming process for boneless rib eye steaks or boneless prime rib roasts. They have all the fatty marbling and flavor that those same cuts are known for, which makes them perfect to cook on the smoker, in the oven, or on a slow barbecue.

Hot Dog Weiners

More like a footlong, and slightly spicier, made with our organic grass-fed beef and pork.

What’s new on the farm?

The cattle were brought in a little earlier this year due to heavy rains in mid October. We generally have them out on pasture until the first week of November, when temperatures have been known to dip below the zero Celsius mark, splitting pipes and causing all kinds of headaches. In fact, Nov. 1st is the deadline for draining outdoor waterworks, making sure that winter facilities are ready to go, and preparing for snow. We are always reminded of one year not so long ago when the first snow came Nov. 3rd, and stayed until spring! This year was an ideal year for pastures; no dry spells, just perfect weather for growing grass – a moderately warm summer with rain whenever it was needed – like New Zealand. So when October came we had tons of grass left out there. But if it rains an inch at a time, the cattle start to make a mess of their paddock, punching holes in the turf and turning the high traffic areas into a muddy mess. So we made the call to bring them in early.

The annual pregnancy check day turned into a bit of a rodeo with several animals escaping! One big black Angus cow decided that rather than being detained in the holding pen awaiting her turn with the vet, she would challenge a wooden sliding door and take a tour outside. Turns out the door was no match for this 1500 lb bulldozer. This was not the only mishap of the day, and when it was all over we decided that the entire handling facility needed to be gone over and improved. Ted Sr. spent more than a week with the welder.
